             Library History

The Alamogordo Public Library first opened for business on Thursday, March 1, 1900. It opened two years after the City of Alamogordo was founded and twelve years before New Mexico became a state and the City was incorporated. The first Library was located in a rented office, and it has outgrown several rooms and buildings since then. The current building at 920 Oregon Avenue was built in 1962. The Library outgrew this building too, and a major expansion was done in 1987.
